Lawn irrigation is becoming a popular option for homeowners in our area.  Irrigation systems are custom designed to provide water for lawn areas, foundation planting, and natural areas.  The source of all city, county, and individual home wells in our area is the Castle Hayne Aquifer, a layer fo limestone rock which underlies a vast portion of eastern North Carolina, including Carteret County.  The water in this limestone layer is quite plentiful, and is actually on it's way to ocean outfall, sometimes many miles offshore.  The water we use today may have fallen as rain hundreds of years ago, and hundreds of miles inland. This incredible resource can be beneficial to us in many ways including providing needed irrigation for lawns and other landscaping, but we must remember to be good stewards of this resource.
